“Re-engaging the home with its wider landscape”
The clients brief was to create a garden that wrapped around the house. Enhance the frontage of the property while incorporating parking and access whilst embedding the house into its gorgeous country position.
Working with Sue Gilbert, multiple materials pick up details from the house to visually link the vertical and the horizontal. These were incorporated sensitively creating the effect that they had always been there. Breaking up the large space allows the house to sit in a softer position in the stunning landscape. Curved walkways with soft planting ensure a flow across the whole garden between each space. Finally, the different functional areas allow the clients to enjoy the multiple views from the property.
"In the rest of the garden, the client wanted to maximise opportunities to have large areas of tiered planting and link the various areas around the house, so the garden flowed to each part. In particular there was a request to make more of a shady rear area of the garden where grass failed to thrive.” Sue Gilbert
